Back to the old drawing board
I'll do another and rework the words and a few of the images and then see how it hangs together. I guess it's all part of the challenge of making any work. If it were easy more people would attempt it.

Where are the illustrations of the dragon's memory? I imagine bright, colourful images. (I looked at the text in the unpublished book section of your website.)
Does he have to be in a zoo? Could he live in a cave? Leaving a zoo is a issue because there are zoo keepers to deal with.
Could it be about the loss of a friend? Perhaps the Prince has moved away instead of outgrowing him? It can seem to a child that in addition to the loss of a friend, the opportunity to do fun things is also lost.
Perhaps the story could show that making a new friend can result in the enjoyment of similar experiences. The new boy could mention that he has cousins.
Thanks for sharing your journey. It is inspiring.
