Merry go round coincidence

Oliver and I went to the Melbourne Zoo today to conduct research for our dragon book which is set in a zoo. As we walked around taking reference shots of wall surfaces and cages etc we passed by a beautiful antique Merry Go Round which they have installed there for the kids. It's a very slow one and not as exciting as the elephant rides I remember taking as a child at the Adelaide zoo but it was lovely to watch.

As we stood watching I vaguely recalled reading about a Hitchcock film with a run away carrousel in it. I told Oliver how Hitch was very nervous for the stunt man who played the part of the brave chap who crawled under the spinning deck to reach the controls in an attempt to stop the thing spinning off its axis.

Anyway we had lunch and continued our zoo visit. It was a fun day.

Tonight, as I sat down to watch a bit of TV, I found myself watching a Hitchcock movie on Fox Classics. As I watched I wondered if by some wild chance this was the film. I waited for any hint of a fairground scene but it seemed unlikely till right at the end and there it was. As if the god of coincidences was saying "Was this the film you had in mind sir?" As I watched 'Strangers on a train' I marvelled, mouth agape, at the coincidence that had taken place.

I know Jung may not have had this in mind when he postulated his concept of syncronicity but he at least tried to explain these strange occurrences.

Then there is an alternative explanation. Perhaps I'm sleeping or in a coma and this life around me is a dream of my own invention.
